Justo Vega y Adolfo Alfonso - Controversia guajira
In this excerpt from the show ''Palmas y Cañas'', we witness a Controversia guajira between two of Cuba's most renowned musical artists, Justo Vega and Adolfo Alfonso. Adolfo Alfonso was a popular artist who loved the décima repentizada, an expression originating centuries ago in Spain and Cubanized on the island. He was a natural and pure decimista and is considered one of the best decimistas Cuba has ever had. On the other hand, Justo Pastor Vega Enríquez was an exceptional performer of the Cuban punto. For many years, he cultivated and elevated the guajira décima, knowing how to sing with singular beauty about love, nature, and his homeland. Vega was a founder and prominent figure of the Cuban television program Palmas y Cañas and participated in Cuban and Latin American music festivals. He became known as "The Gentleman of the Décima" in Cuba.

Cuba celebrates inclusion of Punto Cubano in UNESCO heritage
The Punto, a poetic form of popular music played amongst Cuban farmers has been added to the UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage this year, a great pride for Cubans wishing to preserve the oratory art form born in the fields during the 17th Century.
Punto
Punto is the poetry and music of Cuban peasants, consisting of a tune or melody over which a person sings an improvised or learned stanza, based on a rhyming scheme. Punto is an essential element of Cuban cultural heritage that promotes dialogue and expresses the identity of the communities concerned. Knowledge and skills are transmitted primarily through imitation and via a teaching program involving workshops delivered by bearers and practitioners of the element in Houses of Culture across the country.
