Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro

The Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro was founded in Havana on December 13, 1927 as a sextet consisting of Ignacio Piñeiro on bass and directing, Alberto Villalón on guitar, Francisco González Solares on tres and lead choir voice, Juan de la Cruz on tenor and claves, Bienvenido León on baritone and maracas, and José Incharte on bongó. The group traveled to New York to record and upon their return, trumpeter Lázaro Herrera joined, turning the group into a septet. The group performed at the Havana Sport dance academy and took part in several exhibitions, including the 1929 Fair-Exhibition in Seville, Spain, where they were exclusively contracted by the SEDECA company. In 1930, they were heard on radio station CMCQ, followed by performances at the Sans-Souci cabaret and other radio stations. In 1933, they participated in the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago, USA.
